The Oil2Wang® kiosk integrates IoT for ease of use to household (customers) selling used cooking oil (UCO) and the collectors collecting them. Customers can deposit minimal amount of UCO and get paid directly to their bank accounts and collectors will only need to come once the main tank is full.
The kiosk itself has no interactive buttons as all are managed through the app. The app is for verification of users, whereby only those who are registered can transact with the kiosk, and all transaction history are viewable in the app. For further information on data handling, study our Data Protection and Use Policy.

Used cooking oil (UCO) is the excess oil that remains after cooking. This remaining oil is no longer safe for use in cooking and therefore discarded. However, there is value in this used cooking oil as the precursor material for biodiesel production. The bottleneck in turn, is in the collection of this UCO from households. That is where Oil2Wang® comes in. This automated unmanned IoT smart kiosk acts as a one stop centre for UCO selling and buying. The kiosk is operable 24 hours daily all day. Users can sell UCO at any time, day or night. The kiosk accepts transaction for as low as 200 grams of UCO, users need not stockpile to big amounts before selling. Biodiesel producers can buy collected UCO from kiosk at large quantities.
Every year, nearly 50,000 tons of used cooking oil is NOT MANAGED properly and causes pollution that has a negative impact on the environment.
(Kheang, L. S., May, C. Y., Foon, C. S., & Ngan, M. A. (2006). Recovery and conversion of palm olein-derived used frying oil to methyl esters for biodiesel. Journal of Oil Palm Research, 18, 247)
According to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysia made significant progress in 2023 by collecting approximately 1.4 million tonnes of used cooking oil (UCO). A substantial portion, nearly 75%, originated from commercial sources, including restaurants, food manufacturing, and hotels. The market is carefully segmented into distinct collection sources and end-use applications, with biodiesel production leading the way, accounting for an impressive 85-90% of the collected UCO. This growth is further supported by innovative household collection programs implemented by proactive municipal initiatives. In a remarkable achievement, Malaysia’s biodiesel exports surged to 1.8 million tonnes in 2023, representing a remarkable 38% increase compared to the previous year. This rise is driven by compliance with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive II, which positions Malaysian UCO-based biodiesel as a premium and sustainable feedstock in the global market. Additionally, oleochemical applications, such as soaps and lubricants, utilize 7-10% of the UCO, although its use in animal feed is limited by regulatory restrictions. Technological advancements, particularly IoT-driven collection platforms and blockchain verification, are enhancing operational efficiency and capturing 20% of the commercial segment. These innovations strengthen Malaysia’s competitive edge on the global stage, allowing it to navigate price fluctuations ranging between $750 and $1,150 per tonne. This dynamic landscape not only promises a bright future for UCO utilization in Malaysia but also solidifies its position as a key player in sustainable solutions.
Collection Sources
End-Applications
Market Value Growth
- Vertical integration opportunities linking UCO collection directly to export-certified processing facilities
- Digital platform deployment for supply traceability becoming market standard by 2025
- Emerging SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) niche offering 30% premium over biodiesel
- Johor and Penang emerging as export hubs with 40% of national processing capacity
Regional Export Segmentation (2023)
Palm oil prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% to over MYR 4,000 per tonne, rebounding after recent losses. The rise followed gains in global markets and a weaker ringgit that boosted exports. June shipments climbed over 4%, while China’s surprise manufacturing growth and Indonesia’s 53% export surge signaled strong demand. However, investor caution ahead of the U.S. tariff deadline limited further gains. (Last updates in June 2025).
